With three meets under their belt, the CCHS boys’ slalom ski team is three for three in wins.
The boys took first place on Friday, February 19 at Mont du Lac, defeating teams from Duluth East, Hermantown, and Carlton- Esko-Moose Lake.
Ben Obinger won the race with teammate Elijah Blanc placing second. Finn Taylor wasn’t far behind in fourth place and the team’s fourth finisher was Ray Dressley in eighth place. The top four places are used for scoring in team title competitions.
Other finishers include Reuben Youngdahl in ninth, Geogi Dimitrov in tenth, Andrew Halberg in 12th,Cody Lange in 15th and Cy Oberholtzer who placed 20th.
CCHS Girls
The CCHS girls’ team faced some stiff competition but came away with a first place in the meet held at Mont du Lac.
Ali Duclos had some bad luck with crashes in her first two races, but this time she completed both runs and ended up in second place. Kalina Dimitrova finished third, Genivieve Silence was fifth, Sophia Blanc eighth, Liv Hedstrom 12th, and AnnaBelle Silence finished 14th.
Commenting on the meet, Head Coach John Oberholtzer said, “This is a great group of kids to work with. The kids get along well and are easy to coach. We’re young but we have some talented skiers who are eager to improve. It will be fun to see how this season plays out.”
This year there is a change to the way sections will be handled. In the past the top two teams qualify for the state meet but Oberholtzer said this year there would be two section meets, with the top finishers in each qualifying for state.
