Boy Scouts learn a lot on Gunflint Trail

Recently members of Boy Scout Troop 129 from Virginia, Minnesota, stayed on the Gunflint Trail at Golden Eagle Lodge while working on Boy Scout merit badges. Eagle Scout Joshua Baumann, and Star Scout Ben Kalinowski from the Virginia area worked on fish and wildlife management, forestry and weather merit badges.

Through the overwhelming support of the Gunflint Ranger District, specifically Gene D., Brandee W. and Joe M. the scouts learned valuable information on the complexities of a lumber operation, sound environmental practices and proper forest service management.

The scouts were also able to view a generous detailed tour of the active lumber operation from Kent A. who demonstrated all the machines and tools needed for a safe and effective ecologically sound logging operation. Lastly, the Hedstrom Lumber Company mill tour allowed the scouts to complete some very tough detailed merit badges.

Thank you to all the individuals who helped our scouts.
