Boreal Community Media (BCM) has announced the hiring of Laura Durenberger-Grunow as its Lead Digital Content Editor for the non-profit independent community media organization. In her new role, Laura will be responsible for generating, researching, editing, and reporting content for www.boreal.org and its companion website www.boreal-emergency.org as well as leading the non-profit’s social media efforts.
Durenberger-Grunow re-located to Grand Marais with her husband Ahren, who was appointed General Manager of the Cook County Whole Foods Co-op in the fall of 2021. They have one son.

She brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and a deep love for our community! We are thrilled to have her join the team!”, said Brad Shannon, Chairman of the Boreal Board of Directors.
Shannon continued. “We also want to express our deepest appreciation to Eric Block for his many years of incredible service as content editor. Eric has worked with extraordinary passion, dedication, and creativity volunteering countless hours helping to build Boreal.org. We are eternally grateful for his partnership!” Block will continue to serve on the BCM Board of Directors.
Laura Durenberger-Grunow is an accomplished writer, blogger, podcast host, and reporter. She currently hosts one blog – Reduce. Reuse. Renew, and a podcast Raising Eco Minimalists. She is also a freelance writer and founded the LD Nature Photography ‘How To” Blog. She has a proven understanding and deep commitment to sustainability and also serves on the Boards of the Cook County Mental Health Commission and the Minneapolis Toy Library.
Founded in 1995, Boreal Community Media is a 501 ©(3) non-profit corporation and was one of the pioneering internet service providers in Cook County, Minnesota. BCM currently provides email and tech support services to its members. The BCM website (www.boreal.org) provides news, information, a community calendar, business directory, classified advertising and other community information as a free service to thousands of users each month.
