Two guys chatting more than one year ago led to the first of what might become fairly routine cribbage tournaments.
Rob Hackett and Kyler Hawsen were discussing ways to raise money for the Cook County High School Booster Club and Hackett mentioned cribbage. “It took a while, but Kyler ran with the idea, planned the event and the tournament was a success,” said Hackett.
The CCHS Booster Club held a doubles cribbage tournament at the Wunderbar on Feb. 9 with 20 two-person teams participating.
Larry and Brandon Marxen placed first with Don and Tina McKeever placing second and Julie and Rod Carlson finishing third.
“We had 40 people from age 10 to over 70 playing,” Hackett said.
When the tournament concluded not only did the participants have fun, but $704 was raised for the Booster Club.
“Kyler said he is thinking about hosting another tournament for the Booster Club,” said Hackett. “If we do have another one, it’s important to know that it’s open for everyone to come and play. We had a blast!”
