While Kale Boomer’s outstanding high school football playing days ended with the Vikings’ loss in the play-offs to the Barnum Bombers, honors continue to pour in for Boomer’s fine play on the field.
While he was a four-year starter at quarterback, it was Boomer’s defensive play that earned him further accolades.
On Wednesday, December 12, Boomer was named to the Duluth News-Tribune All-Area Football Team. Kale was selected for his defensive skills as a free safety. Since becoming a starter three years ago (on defense) Boomer has recorded 321 tackles and made 11 interceptions. He also forced 10 fumbles and had eight fumble recoveries over that time.
On offense Boomer threw for 845 yards, rushed for 1,073 yards and totaled 28 touchdowns for the 2012 season. Overall Boomer rushed for 2,625 yards and passed for 2,545 yards and totaled 73 touchdowns as a fouryear starter for the Vikings at quarterback.
Boomer is a two-time Great Polar Alliance first team player and was named the Blue Division’s offensive MVP. He has also been named an AP All-State honorable pick.
Kale is the son of Mike and Laurie Boomer of Grand Portage.
