Brea Boomer’s senior season of basketball was memorable for a lot of reasons. First of all, she helped the team to a 20-4 record with her heads up, all out hustle, unselfish play. The team’s final loss came against Mountain Iron-Buhl (MIB) in the play-offs in a hard fought, close contest. MIB would go on to finish third at state, and this was a team the Vikings had defeated midseason. A heart-breaking way to finish the year, but overall, the loss didn’t overshadow the great basketball played by the Vikings in a season that provided many thrills for their throngs of cheering fans.
For her excellent play, Boomer was selected to the Polar League All-Conference First Team and has now been picked for an even bigger honor. The Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association recently selected Boomer for All-State Honorable Mention.
Head Coach T.J. Super lauded the play and the leadership qualities of Boomer, who will play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie next year. Last year Essa Jacobsen was also selected for the same honor.
For the season Brea was eighth in the conference with 16.6 points per game and third overall in shooting with 54 percent of her shots finding the hoop. Brea led the Vikings in rebounding with 9.2 boards per game and was fourth overall in the Polar League. She finished the season with an average of 3 assists per game, 2nd on the team, and 12th in the conference.
