Just in time for Christmas, two authors known to Northlanders will be appearing at the Mountain Shop at Lutsen Mountains to sign copies of their (new) books.
Kristy Boike authored “Rise Up Little Bluebirds,” a sweet tale of grief and community.
A New Prague, Minnesota mother of four, Kristy was a pre-school teacher and stay-at-home mom before her mother, a nurse, came down with cancer and died at the age of 60. During her mother’s 18-month struggle and then passing, she watched her father, Ron, deal with his grief by making birdhouses for Bluebirds. “Bluebirds were my mother’s favorite bird,” Kristy said. “After a while, dad (Ron) had made a bunch of birdhouses, about a dozen, and he asked me to find a home for them on Facebook. But unfortunately, he doesn’t do Facebook. So, we received more than 100 requests for birdhouses when I told the story about why they were created.”
Author Vincent Wycoff wrote “Beware of Cat: & other encounters of a Letter Carrier,” “Black Otter Bay,” and “Nightwatchers.”
Born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Vincent spent 15 years as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, lived and worked for several years on Lake Superior’s Northshore. The countless hours he spent in the woods camping, fishing, and hiking, and the people he worked with in the local taconite processing plant, created the backdrop for Black Otter Bay. Nightwatchers is his third book and second work of fiction.
Christy and Vincent will appear at the Mountain Shop at Lutsen Mountains on December 18 from noon to 3 p.m. and sign copies of their books.
