As pounding rain fell, a search was launched at 10 a.m. in the Colvill area for the owner of a 2009 Silver Chevrolet Cobalt. The Minnesota State Patrol requested Cook County Law Enforcement assistance on August 19 for a vehicle parked on the upper shoulder of Highway 61 near Kadunce River with the windows down for four days. The car was registered to 22-year-old Justin John Schneider of Cloquet. After searching late into the night and starting again the next morning, the Cook County Sheriff ’s Office issued a press release seeking the public’s help in finding the missing man. Shortly after the announcement was made, Schneider’s body was found at 10:35 a.m. on August 20.
His body was found south of Highway 61 in the woods between the highway and Lake Superior, not far from where the car was parked.
Cook County Sheriff ’s Office, Cook County Search and Rescue, Minnesota State Patrol, United States Border Patrol, Hovland STOP Team, Colvill Fire Department and Hovland Fire Department assisted in the search. St. Louis County Search and Rescue was also called to assist with K-9s Ike & Ted.
This matter is currently under investigation and an autopsy is being conducted by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.
