BMC Henry Francis Stevens,

U.S. Navy Retired, 81, of Grand Portage, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

He was born October 4, 1934 to Robert and Rita (Callan) Stevens in Loretto, Pennsylvania and moved to Baltimore, Maryland at the age of 6, where he attended school. Enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, he served for 30 years until retiring in 1981.

On September 27, 1966 he married Cora “Corky” Robertson in Carson City, Nevada. They moved to Grand Portage in 1989, where Henry “Steve” worked as an immigration inspector for the Department of Justice for nine years until retiring to become a caregiver for his wife.

Henry “Steve” was an EMT for the Grand Portage Ambulance Service, and was a member of the DAV, American Legion, VFW, Fleet Reserve, and enjoyed traveling and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Regina and Michelle.

Henry is survived by his wife, Cora “Corky”; sisters Roseann, Eileen, Helen, Rita, and Lucy; a brother, Charles; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Sept. 15 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Grand Portage. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Grand Portage.
