It’s that time of year again! The North Shore Music Association will host its annual Bluegrass Masters Weekend at Lutsen Resort Nov. 4-6.

Each year NSMA sponsors this dynamic weekend for bluegrass musicians and fans. Friday is check-in, registration and jamming; Saturday is workshops, more jamming and an 8 p.m. concert by the featured group; and Sunday is more jamming before checkout. This year’s featured instrument is the guitar. There’s no cap on workshop participants, so you may register when you arrive.

Featured artists this year are Tim Stafford and Steve Gulley.

Stafford is a native of Kingsport, Tennessee, who began playing guitar seriously at the age of 18. His early groups include Mountain Memories, Boys in the Band and Dusty Miller. He joined Alison Krauss and Union Station, along with Adam Steffey and Barry Bales. Tim won a Grammy in January 1993 for his work on Every Time You Say Goodbye (Rounder, 1992). He has taught guitar and banjo at numerous festival and event workshops across the country.

Steve Gulley is a founding member of the bluegrass group Mountain Heart, with whom he recorded five highly acclaimed CDs as lead singer. He has been tapped as a harmony and featured singer on projects such as the widely praised Keith Whitley album Sad Songs and Waltzes. Steve has earned multiple Male Vocalist of the Year nominations from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America. His first solo project, Sounds Like Home, has just been released on the Lonesome Day Records label.
