The Grand Marais Community Blood Drive, which is sponsored by Arrowhead Pharmacy, will be here on July 20 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. The bus will be parked outside the Senior Center and registration will take place in the Senior Center. Last year we had a record-breaking year and received an award for collecting over 100 units of blood so let’s fill that bus up. Schedule your blood donation today and be assured that you get the exact appointment time you want. This July, all presenting donors can enter to win a fishing adventure for two including a three-night Hyatt stay, airfare, and a freshwater fishing excursion! Plus, weekly drawings for eight $50 gift cards at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
This month the Senior Center will be traveling to the Grand Portage Casino on July 20. We will leave Grand Marais at 4:15 p.m. and will return at 9:30 p.m. Transportation from the Senior Center is free and in-town pickups are available for $1. Everyone that joins us will receive $5 in free slot play and $5 off any meal in the dining room. You can register for this by stopping in or call the Senior Center at 218-387-2660. Come join the fun!
On the third Tuesday of each month from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. (please arrive no later than 10:30 a.m.), the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic sponsors foot care for anyone on a first come, first served basis. No appointments are necessary and the cost is $10. Please bring a towel and a basin to soak your feet in. Remember – happy feet equal happy living.
The Clinic also sponsors a blood pressure check (free) and blood sugar check ($3) on the first Tuesday of each month starting at 10:30 a.m. No appointment is necessary.
If you’re having legal problems (landlords, utilities, family matters, creditors, social security etc.) the Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota may be able to help you. Tim Helgesen, a Legal Aid attorney will be at the Senior Center on Tuesday, July 19 from noon – 1 p.m. to help you and no appointment is necessary.
Arrowhead Transit, your public transportation, is stationed at the Senior Center and is available in Grand Marais Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. They also provide transportation to Duluth every Tuesday for $10 each way. That bus leaves Grand Marais at 8 a.m. and leaves Duluth to return at 3 p.m. There is a Grand Portage Commuter Route that goes to Grand Portage twice a day. It leaves Grand Marais at 7:10 a.m. Monday – Friday, arriving in Grand Portage at 7:50 a.m. and in the afternoon it leaves the Senior Center at 3:25 p.m., arriving in Grand Portage at 4:20 p.m. Each Friday is “Ride Free Friday” for people traveling within Grand Marais, thanks to the Grand Marais State Bank.
