Ten terrific teams each made up of four members took part in the Grand Marais Dairy Queen’s Fisherman’s Picnic Blizzard Eating contest held Friday, August 3.

It took almost a biblical effort to break the Dairy Queen Blizzard eating record set by the three-time defending Bautch team, but the squad made of up of John, James, Luke, and Caleb put their spoons where their mouths were and broke the old mark by finishing two massive 64-ounce Blizzards in one minute and one second. That’s about the same time it takes Google to process (over) 3.8 billion search queries. Or one second longer than it would take Usain Bolt running at top speed to cover 745 meters.

For their winning effort, the new champions were awarded 20 ($100) five-dollar Dairy Queen gift certificates.

The slightly scathed second place team of Lorin, Stan, Natalie, and Bethany Bautch, beaten but unbowed— except for little tummy aches—the Bautches managed to eat their caramel Blizzard in one minute and twenty-five seconds. For their mighty effort, the Bautches received $50 in $5 gift certificates. They promised to be back next year, hungry for another win.

Only three seconds behind the Bautches was the strawberry Blizzard eating team called the Knuckle Pucks (KP). The KP hails from the Twin Cities. They are Ray, Zack, Jason and Katie Osowski.

For their valiant effort, the Knuckle Pucks were awarded $25 in five dollar DQ gift certificates.

Once again the Grand Marais Dairy Queen Blizzard Eating Contest proved to be a whole lot of fun for both the contestants and the cheering audience.
