Blandin Community leadership program seeks new participants

As part of its commitment to strengthening rural communities, Blandin Foundation is once again making its Blandin Community Leadership Program (BCLP) available to Cook County residents.

This is the fourth time BCLP training has been available for the Cook County area. BCLP alumni throughout the state use the strategies and skills learned in BCLP training to advance community cooperation, address issues of ethnic and cultural diversity, promote tourism, create economic development opportunities, address the needs of seniors and deal creatively with health and housing issues, education and violence reduction among others.

A BCLP Informational Town Meeting will be held in Cook County on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 5 – 6 p.m. at Cook County Higher Education, Room 214, 300 West Third Street in Grand Marais. Appetizers and beverages will be provided.

Anyone who would like to learn more about the Blandin Foundation opportunity is encouraged to attend. RSVP by Monday, December 2 to skmorque@blandinfoundation.org or call toll free to (877) 882-2257.

A committee of local residents is actively seeking applicants. All those interested are invited to apply to participate in this nationally recognized program. Deadline to apply is Monday, Dec. 16.

Applications can be accessed and completed online at: www.blandinfoundation.org.

Ultimately, a community team of 24 people will be selected to take part in eight days of training—a fiveday residential retreat scheduled for February at Sugar Lake Lodge in Grand Rapids, and two summer workshops. Blandin Foundation covers the cost of training, materials, tuition, room and board for participants.

Additional information about BCLP can be obtained by contacting BCLP alums Kay Costello at 218-387-2556 or Mark Adams at 218-475-2391, or Becky Adams of the Blandin Foundation at 877-882- 2257.
