Birch Grove Community School’s Birch BODIES program gets an upgrade!

When it comes to getting exercise the kids at Birch Grove Community School know how to work out and still have a lot of fun. The school recently received a new high-quality LCD projector that allows a variety of dance and exercise videos to be played. The Birch BODIES program has been a staple at Birch Grove Community School (BGCS) for a few years. Students gather in the gymnasium for fun exercise, dancing and moving to various videos, many times to popular music. The school uses GoNoodle, Kidz Bop Kids, Zumba Kids, Maximo, Moose Tube, and other motivational programs.

The Birch BODIES program promotes coordination, body awareness, gross motor skills, boosts confidence, and has allowed many students to perfect smooth dance moves.

A new LCD projector was recently purchased allowing a better program experience. “We were having problems with an old, inexpensive projector that just wasn’t cutting it, and resorted to putting the videos on a television screen for a while this year,” said Diane Blanchard, BGCE director. “A new, high quality projector was recently purchased, allowing us to project the videos on a large, existing movie screen. We also added a sound bar that we purchased 10 years ago, still in perfect working condition, and integrated it into the system.

“Now there are almost-life-sized instructors on the screen, and big sound too! I can hear the music and kids singing from the office and often go in the gym just to watch the kids in action.”

Blanchard added, “BGCS thanks the Grand Marais Lioness Club for contributing $160 towards the new projector. The upgrade in equipment is a nice addition to the Birch BODIES program!”
