Bill of Rights is not the Bill of License

Re: Geri Jensen letters.

You replied to three letters in the Aug. 28 News-Herald
but failed to reply to my letter. Could it be that you want to keep the focus on Christian beliefs rather than on my concerns?

I still would like to know where you get your ethics or moral values? Science and reason have no morality in themselves. Those who make new discoveries must have moral standards from somewhere to help decide whether their discovery will help or hurt people.

I want to bring to the attention of our readers the danger of those who want to remove God from our country. Without the historical background of our Declaration of Independence and Constitution the Bill of Rights becomes a “bill of license.” The Supreme Court has already changed the meanings of:

• Freedom of speech to include freedom of action (such as burning the flag). Also that it is constitutional to preach hate and violence.

• Freedom of the press to include all media and that they can use any means to get a story even if it infringes on the rights of individuals and has no useful purpose. And that they are not to be held accountable for damage caused.

• Freedom from unreasonable search

and seizure has been interpreted so that criminals have more rights than victims.

For some years there has been a real push to change freedom of
religion to freedom from
religion. Now it would seem that atheists intend to try to change the very bedrock of our country. Elections are coming up and the first thing a voter should ask a candidate (especially members of Congress and the president) is, “Where do you stand on the Constitution? Should all Supreme Court justices be required to interpret the Constitution as it was meant when written?” If the answer is no, think carefully, because who serves on the Supreme Court affects each of us for years to come.
