The Cook County Senior Center has undergone a lot of changes recently, including a name change. From now on the center will be called the Hub.
Inside the building there is new tile and carpeting on the floor and newly painted walls waiting for some artwork to be hung on them.
Instead of two computers at the Hub, there are four computers with Wi-Fi available for the public to use.
And no, you don’t have to be a senior to go into the Hub. The facility is open to all ages.
If you need help with your computer, laptop, cell phone, or to access or set up a social media account (Facebook) every second and fourth Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. there will be tech support available to answer questions or show you how to do something on your electronic device.
Need help setting up a medical alert? You can get help with that at the Hub as well.
Activities at the Hub include Bingo on the second and fourth Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. Play for fun and play for prizes.
At 11 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays there is a Walk and Talk, weather permitting. This is a chance to get outside and enjoy the weather, stroll at your own pace and enjoy some conversation while you get in a little exercise.
Something new, a Coloring, Conversation and Coffee time, will be held the first and third Wednesday starting at 1 p.m. “We have all of the supplies here at the center,” said Chris Bautch, who is the new Activity Director at the Hub.
On Aug. 6 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Roxanne Berglund and Briand Morrison will play music. This is free and open to the public. There will also be an ice cream social during this time.
Foot care is held every Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. Bring a towel and a basin for water to soak your feet in. Cost is $10. Please come no later than 10:30 a.m.
Blood pressure checks are free the first Tuesday of the month starting at 10:30 a.m. Blood sugar will also be checked at a cost of $3 by nurses sent from the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic.
A Health Living class is held every Monday starting at 1:30 p.m. Come and learn tips that will help you live better. Come and share stories and share laughter.
Lunch is held everyday weekday at noon. This is open to the public. Call before 9:30 a.m. to let us know you are coming to eat. Cost is $4 for those 60 and over and $7.50 for those younger than 60. The meal includes a dessert and drink.
Book club is held every Thursday at 1 p.m. and the Quilters Club meets the second and fourth Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
“We’re always looking for people to join the Quilters Club,” said Chris. “We’re also open to new ideas and suggestions and volunteers are always welcome.”
