It seems as though the extremist wing of the supreme court is likely to double on their religious fascism. They have already signaled they are willing to discount all precedent, all religious or secular freedoms no matter how popular, if they do not align with their regressive, cruel and uncaring vision for this country. Theirs is not The Land of the Free. There can be no freedom when anyone who could be pregnant can be imprisoned and made to give birth. There is no freedom when a miscarriage is punishable by death. There is no freedom when a child who is the victim of rape is forced to birth to that child. There is no freedom when a checkpoint and pregnancy test at gunpoint awaits interstate travelers.
I’ve written that the Republican Party is a party of death before and they continue to pile skulls on their stolen thrones. Now they are adding those of women across this country. It may seem impossible that it could get worse, that they won’t come for the rest of us. Don’t be coddled by that idea, fascists always come for everyone else, for any possible threat to their power. Fascism is insidious, the Republican power project is insidious, and their current success would make many a dark lord proud.
