Born to Arthur and Leona Wagner on January 29, 1925, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, Betty passed peacefully to her Mansion Just Over The Hilltop early Christmas morning at age 96. She moved to Grand Marais in 1954 where she raised her twelve children. Betty was employed by various local hotels, served at the school lunchroom, and later became a receptionist at the Cook County Courthouse. She eventually retired from the Department of Social Services. Betty enjoyed her many walks to and from work.
She is survived by one sister, Barbara Partipilo, North Lake, Illinois and one brother Arthur “Bud” Wagner, Anderson, California and by nine children: Mary Lou Catron, Anchorage Alaska; Terry Wilson, Grand Marais; Ronald Wilson, Grand Marais; Gary “Skeeter” Wilson, Camano Island, Washington; Debra Wilson, Anchorage Alaska; Hope Cooper, Novato, California; Perry “Proof” Wilson, Grand Marais; Barbara Dossey, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Leona “Onnie” Tucker, Tallahassee, Florida. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and some great greats. She told us often “I love all my kids.” There are so many Precious Memories.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and four of her sons: infant Leon, Larry, Samuel and Donald (Smasher) and one grandchild, infant Justin.
Betty was an extraordinary independent and strong woman who was always grateful for the kindness of others. She truly appreciated the simple but important things in life.
Prior arrangements had been made with the Cremation Society of Minnesota. She will be laid to rest with Amazing Grace at the Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.
