Betty Jane (Backlund) Blackwell, formerly of Grand Marais, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012 atDiamond Willow Assisted Living.
She was born November 6, 1934 to Jonas and Ellen Backlund. She married Kenny Blackwell and lived her entire life in Grand Marais until moving to rural Proctor in 2005.
She worked for many years at the Cook County North Shore Hospital as director of Medical Records, and following retirement, she worked part-time at Gunflint Hills Golf Course and Pike Lake Golf Course. Betty loved the game of golf and spent hours at the sport, boasting a few club championships during her lifetime.
Kenny and Betty enjoyed many trips to Texas on their annual vacations, with a stop in Colorado to ski along the way.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Kenny.
She is survived by sisters Lois Young, Midland, Michigan; Arlene Jurek, Grand Marais; nieces Lynn Tulachka, Sue Ives, Karen Bicking and Linda Kratt; stepdaughter Sharon Strandberg; grandsons Keith and Steve; and many great-nieces and-nephews.
A time of sharing and celebration of life will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 followed by a luncheon at the Harbor Light Supper Club.
