On January 13, the Cook County Grand Marais Joint Economic Development Authority (EDA) announced that Beth Drost had resigned as Executive Director, effective January 20, 2023. Drost leaves to pursue a new chapter in her career, as Executive Director of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.
Drost has been in the position since her appointment in August of 2021. During her leadership, the Board completed a comprehensive housing study that is informing the work of the newly created Housing and Redevelopment Authority, secured several large grants for business development in the county, and recently finalized a $180,000 childcare grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to ensure working families in Cook County and Grand Portage have access to affordable childcare.
The Board of Commissioners will begin the process of appointing new leadership right away. In the interim, Pat Campanaro, SBDC Small Business Advisor will serve as Acting Director, reporting to incoming EDA President, Steve Surbaugh.
“We appreciate the service and dedication Beth has given to the EDA. We wish her much success in her new role; she is an asset to any team.” says Howard Hedstrom, outgoing Board President.
