On July 17 there is going to be a benefit concert at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay.
The concert, which is sponsored by the Spiritwood “Forget me not” Foundation of Ely, will featured the Boundary Waters Boys.
Pat and Donna Surface created the Spiritwood Foundation in 2004 when Donna, the foundation’s director, lost her dad, Rocco Michael Passaretti, to Alzheimer’s disease. Their mission is to raise not only awareness regarding Alzheimer’s disease, but also critical funds that support community organizations, programs, and facilities working with the afflicted and their families.
Among the organizations supported by the Spiritwood Foundation are Northwoods Partners and their Memory Care Programs, and Minnesota Veterans Home Silver Bay and their Summer Concert Series.
The foundation sponsors benefit concerts, silent auctions, memory walks, or any other fundraising events that help individuals needing care-giver respite; veterans and their families dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia; and organizations needing to build assisted living facility additions and add programs for residents.
The foundation also sponsors “Minnesota Memory Care Tours,” that provides uplifting concerts for residents, their families and friends, and the staff in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and senior residences.
