Once again the North Shore Health Care Foundation golf tournament drew a good field of golfers bent on having fun while raising significant sums of money for the North Shore Health Care Foundation (NSHCF).
While the best-ball tournament format drives scores down, the low scores were still impressive.
All told, 21 teams raised $11,700 on a beautiful fall day. Although it was down from last year’s total of $14,800, it was a great sum, nonetheless.
The team from Grand Portage made up of Mike Young, Jeremiah Yeary, Paul Krause, Joe Jeanette and Jeremy Jeanette won the Men’s Division with a score of 60.
Rob and Anne Wight, Paul Krause, George “Bub” Nelson and his 18-yearold granddaughter Jennifer Kack won the Mixed Division. They shot a stellar score of 58.
Winning the Elite Division were Tim and Linda Walker, Paul Krause, and Fred and Carol Breitling with a score of 59.
Back again was former Viking great Paul Krause as the celebrity golfer. Last year former Viking teammate and business partner Stu Voight filled in for Krause because Krause was on a goodwill tour to support our troops in Afghanistan.
Karl Hansen, executive director of NSHCF, said, “All proceeds of the golf tournament go to our local grants to health care providers—over $450,000 since 1995. Our major focus recently has been the Care Partners program and a new oral health initiative that is just getting under way.
“None of this would be possible without the generous support of the community, sponsors, golfers and volunteers.”
After a beautiful day of golf, the day ended with the traditional 19th hole reception and meal at Lutsen Resort. Plans are already under way for next year’s tournament.
