Beatrice R. Griffis, 90, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015 at The Victoria House.
Bea, a Texas native was born in Petrolia, Texas on August 17, 1924, and attended school in the Wichita Falls, Texas area.
She married Ralph L. Griffis in January 1949 and traveled with him as he moved about the country in the construction industry. Bea worked in banking and construction office management.
In 1957 Bea and her husband bought Chik-Wauk Lodge and Canoe Outfitters on Saganaga Lake, Grand Marais. Together they owned and operated that resort until 1980, when the property was sold to the U.S. Forest Service.
Bea was a winter visitor to the Harlingen area beginning in the 1960s and then became a permanent resident in the 1980s. She was a member of the Harlingen Country Club, Eastern Star, and active in Life Begins at Forty.
Bea is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, her parents, one sister and two brothers.
No services will be held at this time and Bea will be cremated as per her wishes.
