Beating cabin fever at North Shore Living

The residents of North Shore Living know how to beat “cabin fever” with a full calendar of fun activities scheduled for February. There is a lot to celebrate too, with the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, and Mardi Gras.

We have a variety of music events scheduled to take away those winter blues. Myron Bursheim will play guitar for us on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m., and Susan Scherer on piano most Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. On February 4 at 2 p.m., Arianna will play her violin to the delight of the residents. Amy Schmidt and friends will be here to entertain us on February 11 at 2 p.m. The W.I.S.E. social on February 15 at 3 p.m., will have some lively piano music, along with a delicious dessert for all to enjoy. Pastor Daren Blanck will be at North Shore Living on February 17 at 1 p.m., for a fun sing-a-long, always a favorite with the residents! Portage Band will be back on February 29 at 6:30 p.m., for a dance to wrap up this month’s music events. Family and friends are always welcome to join us.

The monthly birthday party will be held on February 12 at 3 p.m., to celebrate our February birthdays: Pat Hooper and Joyce Krueger. There will be plenty of cake and ice cream for all, and Doug Sanders will be here to entertain us with some of our favorite piano tunes.

There will be a Valentine Bingo on February 13 at 2:30 p.m., and a Valentine’s Day dinner theatre is planned for February 14th. Bubbly will be served, along with a shrimp pasta salad and dessert. Some “I Love Lucy” classics will be playing during the dinner for the residents’ enjoyment.

Games are always a good activity to put a smile on your face on a cold winter day, and we have plenty planned for February. The activity department will host another “Bean Auction” on February 18 at 2 p.m. This Auction has become one of the residents’ favorite activities! All participants are given a certain number of “beans” to use for bidding on items that come up on the auction block. There is always a lot of laughter and bantering as they try to out bid each other! Other games will include dominoes, balloon volleyball, Lucky 7, and trivia sessions. We’ve added a large ring toss to exercise group on Wednesday afternoons too. Of course, there is always the all-time favorite “Bingo” on Thursday afternoons.

We do a lot of baking during these long winter months as there is nothing like the smell of homemade goodies wafting through our home! Pictured here is Nadine Abel (one of our expert bakers) preparing a cake for the birthday party.

On February 27 an outing is planned to The Hub (Senior Center) for lunch and some social time with our friends there.

The residents hope all of you are keeping warm and cozy, and are finding creative and fun activities to fill your winter days too!
