The announcement that the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon had been cancelled was met with disappointment all up and down the North Shore. Few people were more disappointed than the dedicated photographers who follow the race, braving frozen fingers and batteries to capture the action.

The good news is that although the 2012 race will not take place, the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon Photography Exhibit at the Great Lakes Aquarium in Grand Marais will still take place. Among the photographers who are renowned for their Beargrease photography is Gary Meinz of Lutsen.

Meinz said, “Race or no race, the show must go on!”

The Beargrease Photographers Show will be at the Great Lakes Aquarium, 353 Harbor Drive, Duluth, from January 16– February 2, 2012. An artists’ reception will be held January 28.
