In regard to your September 12, 2009 issue – I don’t understand why your paper feels the need to show a photo of a live bear and next to it a photo of the same bear — now he’s dead.
Bear baiting in general seems wrong to me. It’s not really “hunting” when all a baiter does is entice an animal to dinner and then shoot him from a tree 20 feet away. That would be called entrapment.
Also in the next week’s paper you show a death toll of bears. Well, why not put the true death toll then — how many were pregnant females with next year’s cubs and how many were mother bears leaving two or three 8-month-old cubs to suffer and die? They need their mother to den up with to survive the winter.
Hunting is one thing. I understand that, but baiting and then acting proud of your kill seems just plain wrong.
