When our April 5 copy of the Cook County paper arrived I decided to skip the letters to the editor which tend to get me riled up and get right into the news. Well, looking back that wasn’t the best idea. As I read the article Lutsen supervisors agree to pay bill for cemetery questions, my blood pressure rose and I headed for my computer.
First of all I am a past Lutsen supervisor and still own property in Lutsen. I do recognize and commend people for serving in local government. I know we can all make mistakes, God knows I have made my share in this lifetime, but what makes me absolutely crazy is the way people in public office look at money as if it was theirs to give away.
I was taught to be accountable when I made a mistake. I was taught when I was elected to manage others’ money entrusted to me it was a privilege and honor. I don’t know how these supervisors run their households but not asking what an attorney may or may not charge is inexcusable. This is not only their money it is ours.
If the comment printed in the paper where it was said “it is only $436” is in fact what was said shame on you! The supervisors need to own this and pay it back out of their compensation not ours! Our country is in the mess it is because of politicians on all levels spending money like it was given to them and it was free. Be accountable, own your mistakes and pay for them!
