Be a winner at the Senior Center

The recent warm weather was a welcome respite. I think it gave us all a taste of spring fever! Which brings us to talk about all of our Snowbird friends. We were happy to see Dan Kehoe return from a long trip to Phoenix, AZ. We look forward to seeing all of our other Snowbird friends as they return home.

Every month we have been having a “Dining at the Senior Center Drawing.” The monthly winner is the lucky recipient of a gift certificate graciously donated by local businesses. On February 1 we drew for our January prize, which was a $25.00 gift certificate donated by our friends at Holiday Stationstores. Tom Hedstrom was the lucky and excited winner!

For our February prize, the lucky winner was Iola Wojtysiak, who got to choose from a month long bus pass, donated by Arrowhead Transit or two free deluxe car washes, donated by Clyde’s Car Wash—a $20 value for either prize. Iola’s name was drawn on March 1.

This month, our lucky winner will have the chance to win a full year’s subscription to our favorite local newspaper, the Cook County News Herald, complete with mailbox delivery—a $28.00 value! To be eligible to win…all you have to do is stop in for lunch. With each lunch you will receive one entry ticket. Eat more often… win more often!

Our special Valentine’s meal and party was enjoyed by many.

A group from the Care Center joined us last week for a wonderful meal and social gathering.

Coming up on Tuesday, March 15, we will be hosting a special National Nutrition Day Luncheon. Chicken Fettuccine is on the menu.

Then on Thursday, March 17, we will be hosting a special St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon. Roast Pork Dinner is on the menu, followed by bingo! Mark your calendars and bring a date or a friend!

On Wednesday, March 16, our Senior Center bus will once again travel up to Grand Portage for our monthly trip of fun and hopefully luck! The cost for round trip transportation is $11.00. People of all ages are welcome to join us. Reserve your spot by signing up at or calling the Senior Center at 387-2660.

Many afternoons the choice of a game lately has been the card game Push! We have been having a hoot!

On Mondays and Fridays after lunch we have been having a blast bowling on the Wii game machine. Nona Smith is our resident pro and is a tough one to beat….Are you up to the challenge? We would love to have you come in and play.

Tuesdays after lunch is jigsaw puzzle time…which is a great winter pastime.

On Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00 in the morning, join our Gentle Exercise and Stretch group. This is offered free of charge and open to all of all abilities…even limited abilities. After lunch on Wednesdays, we play card games. We are looking for more players to join us.

On Thursdays at 9:45 in the morning join us for cribbage, and after lunch, bingo! The cost for bingo is $1.00 for the entire session. We have prizes such as treats to eat, a chance to win the pot, which is currently at $22.00. There is also a daily grand prize which can include your choice of gift certificates donated by local businesses or a Senior Center lunch ticket.

Remember, all of these fun events at the Senior Center are open to folks of all ages.
