WTIP North Shore Community Radio is pleased to provide live broadcasts of several Cook County Vikings basketball games this season. WTIP volunteers Norman Moe and Dick Dorr will provide play-byplay coverage of seven doubleheader Cook County Vikings’ boys’ and girls’ basketball games, spread throughout the basketball season. “It’s important to WTIP to provide this service,” says WTIP’s Executive Director Deb Benedict. “It supports local sports and brings the games to those who otherwise wouldn’t have access.”

WTIP has been providing local sports coverage since 1998. Over the years, these broadcasts have grown into a service that is depended upon and greatly appreciated throughout WTIP’s listening area and beyond. Theservice is utilized not only by Cook County Vikings fans, but by other teams’ fans as well. “Often,” says Moe, “fans from both teams can’t make it to the game, and WTIP broadcasts enable them to experience the game.”

Volunteer efforts make the sports broadcast service possible. “WTIP would like to thank Norman Moe and Dick Dorr,” says Benedict, “who volunteer their time and talents to make the play-by-play coverage possible, and to WTIP’s engineer, Jeff Nemitz, who lends his technical expertise.”

WTIP would like to extend their sports broadcasts to include other sports, such as volleyball. “We have had a few volunteers come forward,” says Benedict, “and we’re hoping to be able to start providing coverage of some of the Cook County Vikings’ volleyball games starting in 2011. We’re very excited about this prospect, as we know it’s important to the community.”

More information about sports broadcasts and volunteer opportunities, as well as a basketball broadcast schedule, is available on WTIP’s website at www. wtip.org.
