A two-sport all-conference football and basketball player at CCHS, Colin Everson went on to be a record-setting football player at Minnesota Morris. It was good news then for many of us to learn that Colin would be returning home to teach and coach. However, after two years, Colin has tendered his resignation at Cook County I.S.D. 166. The school will have to find a new varsity boys’ basketball coach and a new middle school (grades 6-8) math teacher.
Everson recently informed the school board that he was leaving to pursue other opportunities.
In his resignation letter, Colin explained, “It has been an honor to have the opportunity to serve this community.
Furthermore, it has been an honor to have the opportunity to serve the community that played such an instrumental part in my youth and development. It has been a great first two years of my journey as a teacher and a coach, and I am very happy to have gotten to spend those first two years here at CCHS with the teachers, staff, students and community members I have gotten to meet…”
Elaborating on why he was leaving, Colin said, “Opportunities have presented themselves for me to continue my journey as an educator and a coach elsewhere. Additionally, there are personal opportunities elsewhere that I must see-through. After much deliberating, I will not be returning to teach 6th through 8th-grade math and coach the varsity boys’ basketball teams for the fall of 2020 for the 2020-2021 school year.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision, but I believe this is what I want/ need/must do.”
In closing, Colin again thanked the school board and the local community. He promised to assist the school district in any way he could until he left for his new position.
Colin is the son of Ron and Cindy Everson, Grand Marais.
