Baseball Senior Legion team falls to Virginia



The visiting Virginia Senior Legion baseball team put up two runs in the first, one in the second and one in the fifth to defeat the Cook County/Silver Bay Senior Legion baseball team 4-1 in a game played July 1 in Grand Marais.

Virginia scored on a wild pitch in the first inning to take a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

Jacob Dorr was the losing pitcher. He pitched a complete game, giving up six hits, four runs, walked four and didn’t record a strikeout.

The Virginia pitcher also pitched a complete game. Number 13 allowed one run off of six hits. He walked one and struck out six.

Patrick Pierre and Amos Falter each had two hits in the game. Tate Crawford and Ero Wallin also each had a hit in the game.

The Vikings had three errors while Virginia didn’t have any fielding or throwing errors.

Junior CC/SB team falls to Virginia

The Junior Legion Viking baseball team took a second inning 2-1 lead over the Junior Legion team from Virginia in their July 1 contest, but the Vikings offense sputtered, and Virginia took home a 9-3 victory.

Virginia scored one in the first to lead 1-0 and then erupted for four runs in the third and three in the fourth, ending with one more in the sixth while holding the Vikings to a lone run in the sixth.

Jacob Carpenter took the loss for the Vikings. Jacob pitched four innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out four.

Seven Vikings each had one hit in the game. They were Ray Dressley, Hunter Gomez, Braylen Hoff, Race Gibson, Amos Falter, Paul Dorr and J Shannon.

Virginia ended with 11 hits and two errors. The Vikings ended with three errors.
