This must have been an easy decision. Barbara (Barb) Jo Gervais was named Tofte Citizen of the Year and honored at the Tofte July 4th celebration.
Barb has served as Tofte Town clerk since March 2006. Any questions about Tofte come to and through Barb, and she is quick to answer or quick to find an answer. She also serves on the park board and cemetery boards in Tofte.
“Barb is one of the most capable people I have ever known,” said former Tofte Township supervisor Jim King. “She has done a marvelous job in sometimes difficult circumstances. I’m glad a township employee was recognized. She goes way above and beyond what is usually asked of her. I couldn’t be happier to see her recognized in this way,” added King.
Current township supervisor Craig Horak has found Barb to be an invaluable resource. Horak cited Gervais’s ability to get information to him in a timely fashion. “In my opinion, Barb is the reason that Tofte is still running. She does more than people know. I don’t think she gets paid enough for all of the stuff that gets dumped on her. Sometimes people get mad at her for decisions made by other people. She is the town clerk, she doesn’t make decisions, but she makes sure they are carried out. She is truly impressive.”
Paul James served on the Tofte Township Board for 17 years. He had a bird’s eye view of Barb’s work and dedication. “Second to none. She was the person who kept the town together for years. She handled all of the paperwork, all of the town business. She did it all. I can’t think of anyone who is more deserving of being named Citizen of the Year than Barb,” James said.
