I am honored to have been re-elected to represent Northern Minnesota in the state Senate. Minnesotans of all political stripes cast a record number of ballots on Election Day 2012, and I would like to thank everyone who participated in our state’s democratic process.
Elected office is a tremendous and humbling responsibility, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you in the Minnesota Senate. We all agree that Northern Minnesota is a great place to work, play, and raise a family, but we may hold different ideas for how best to move our state forward. Please, never hesitate to reach out to me and my office on any matter, large or small. I pledge to listen to you and work hard to find solutions that will bring results for Northern Minnesota.
I also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the strong message Minnesota voters sent by rejecting both proposed constitutional amendments this year. No matter your position on the issues, it is clear that Minnesotans rejected these maneuvers to bypass our system of checks and balances as a means to inject unnecessary policy provisions into our state constitution.
As we shift our attention from the campaign trail to the challenges of the 2013 Legislative Session, I am also honored to take on the additional responsibility of serving as Minnesota’s next Senate Majority Leader. This role will allow me to work directly on shaping the policies that will bring fiscal health back to our state, bring stable funding to our schools, and ultimately leave a better Minnesota for our kids and grandkids.
Again, thank you for your vote and your trust. I look forward to staying in touch with you and your family in the coming years.
Tom Bakk
State Senator, District 3
Minnesota Senate Majority Leader-designate
