Taylor Baham of Lutsen graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in University of Minnesota-Duluth commencement exercises on May 18, 2013 at Amsoil Arena and received his commission into the U.S. Air Force later that same day. At the commissioning ceremony, his father, Jeff Baham was able to pin on his stripes.

Baham is currently stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, attending flight school.

Sheppard Air Force Base is the largest and most diversified training center in Air Education and Training Command. The base is named in honor of Texas Senator John Morris Sheppard, a supporter of military preparations before WWII.

Sheppard has been providing instruction in Air Force specialties for more than half a century. Though the mission has changed several times, Sheppard has always been in the training business since it was officially opened as an active Army Air Corps base in October 1941.

The major command is the Air Education and Training Command (AETC). AETC’s mission is to recruit, train, and educate quality people through military, technical and flight training. Technical training is provided in the major academic areas of aircraft maintenance, civil engineering, electronics, fuels, telecommunications, biomedical sciences, dentistry, health service administration, clinical sciences, medical readiness, nursing and aeromedical education.

Taylor is the son of Jeff and Christy Baham of Lutsen. He is a 2009 graduate from Cook County High School.
