Backstage Buzz: Alice in Wonderland interest meeting and Spaghetti Feed

January 16, 5:30 p.m.

The Grand Marais Playhouse is preparing to open the 2023 theater season with Alice in Wonderland. This production will be the high school community play with roles for grades 6 to adult with high school age primary focus.

In order to create this production, we need technical/backstage support as well as enough acting roles to be filled. In order to gauge the possibility of filling these roles the Playhouse will hold an interest meeting/ spaghetti feed on Monday, January 16 at 5:30 pm at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.

A script will be selected, and the scale of the production will be determined by community interest following this meeting.

This production of Alice in Wonderland will require a cast of at least 11 people (preferably more) committed to the rehearsal times and performances as well as ability to devote time outside of rehearsal for memorization and character development.

Community members are asked to join the technical team to ensure the show’s success. These teams include the set, costumes, props, hair/makeup, lighting, and sound. This production will also need a stage manager and backstage crew.

The play will not move forward without enough community support in these areas. These roles are vital to any successful theater production. Experience is not necessary, just a desire and commitment to the show’s success is needed.

About rehearsal:

Times are subject to change to accommodate majority cast participation.

Auditions, should we be successful in filling the above roles, will be February 6 at 5:30 pm and are open to people in grades 6-12 and adults. High school age is primary focus of this production.

Rehearsal times are scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday – Friday and will vary by role. (Possible 4-6 time slot as well. To be discussed.)

Rehearsal conflicts are very detrimental to the production and must be limited.

There will be no rehearsal March 23-31 for Spring break.

Performances will be Thursday through Sunday, April 13-16 and 20-23.

About production schedule: Work schedules will vary, and work can be completed independently as well as with a team. Please come to meeting to find out more and sign up! This production needs you!
