The Grand Marais Playhouse’s production of We Happy Few by Imogen Stubbs continues this weekend with performances Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and the final performance on Sunday at 2 p.m. The play has been receiving rave reviews from last weekend’s performances. Some folks have even come twice!

The play is an uplifting, touching and often hilarious story of a group of women who travel across Britain during World War II performing Shakespeare and other plays to children and people in remote areas.

Inspired by the true wartime history of the Osiris Players, this dramatic comedy tells the stories of these women as they live and work and produce up to four plays a day with little money but a lot of heart.

The cast includes Brandon Bockovich, Lucy Callender, Lollie Cooper, Beth Faraone, Finn Garry, Brenna Hay, Jan Healy, Linnea Henrikson, Wellesley Howard Larsen, Kevin Kager, Aliya Marxen, Erica Marxen, Santina McMillan, Karl Olson, Louise Reavis, Melanie Stoddard, Kathy Ann Travis and is directed by Sue Hennessy.

The Grand Marais Playhouse will hold its annual high school senior award presentation on Sunday, Dec. 14.

The cast of We Happy Few includes three high school seniors whom the Playhouse would like to acknowledge for their contributions to live theater. Thank you Brandon Bockovich, Brenna Hay and Melanie Stoddard for sharing your talent with the community! Best of luck in your future endeavors!

Two of the seniors have been very active with the Playhouse many years. The Grand Marais Playhouse board would like to acknowledge this with the “Commitment to Excellence in Theater Arts” award and a $200 scholarship.

The award will be presented to Brenna Hay and Melanie Stoddard following the performance on Sunday.

Both Brenna and Melanie have been involved with the Grand Marais Playhouse as actors, stage managers, and as a summer interns working on set construction, scenic painting, props, lights and sound. Melanie’s first production was The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in 2005 when she was 8. Brenna’s first play was The Wizard of Oz in 2008, when she was 10. Congratulations!

Please don’t forget to renew or upgrade your membership before the end of the year. Help keep your theater active in our community and in our schools. We need your support!
