Baby arrives early for Tofte couple

Cook County emergency responders almost had the opportunity to deliver a baby on Tuesday, September 13, but the baby’s unexpected arrival happened before they could even respond. At 3:50 p.m., Cook County law enforcement dispatchers received a call from Alex Jerabek of Tofte reporting that his girlfriend, Katie Wright, had just delivered a baby boy at their residence. Jerabek reported that the baby was breathing and crying and Wright was conscious and “doing okay.”

Tofte First Responders and Cook County Ambulance responded and mother and baby were transported to the hospital. Both mother and baby were doing well. The baby weighed 8 pounds and was 21 inches long.

Because the birth was unexpected, law enforcement dispatcher Darcy Ziller, who was on duty at the time of the call, called another dispatcher-mom, Lindsay Mielke. They gathered baby clothes and equipment for the new parents.

Look for a birth announcement for baby boy John Andrew Jerabek in an upcoming issue of the Cook County News-Herald.
