The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp was recently held on the University of Minnesota- Crookston campus. Each camper is sponsored by his or her local Rotary club and this year there were 140 RYLA campers who were sponsored by 56 Rotary International Clubs from District 5580. Sara Shepersky, Aaron Holbeck of Two Harbors and Autumn Clearwater-Day of Grand Portage were sponsored by the North Shore/Two Harbors Rotary Club.
Most of the students who participated in this year’s RYLA camp will be high school seniors in 2010-2011.
Camp RYLA’s mission is to provide outstanding high school students with a variety of educational and recreational activities. These activities provide numerous opportunities for leadership and team building, and they are designed to expand, improve, and refine the participants’ leadership skills. RYLA campers are sponsored by their local Rotary Club. Campers are hosted by the Crookston Rotary Club, Rotary District 5580, and UMC, and they stay in the residence halls on campus during the weeklong program.
