Summer is here, and the residents of the Care Center plan to take advantage of the sunshine and warm weather on our new patio that was recently completed. We are planning to spend every opportunity enjoying activities in our new space. The elders wish to extend a special thank you to Susan Scherer for constructing two raised planters for their enjoyment. Susan, who plays piano every Wednesday afternoon at the Care Center, is a gal of many talents! We sincerely thank her for sharing her wood-working skills with us. Thanks to Buck’s Hardware for donating some beautiful flowers to fill our planters too.
August is a busy month starting with the Fisherman’s Picnic. We welcome all the family and friends who will be visiting over the Picnic. The residents are looking forward to some fish burgers from the Lions Club Fish Burger stand on Friday evening. Thanks to the Lions Club for so generously donating the fish burgers for the residents to enjoy. On Saturday, Aug. 5, there will be a Fisherman’s Picnic Reminisce time on the patio with some favorite fish snacks. The first outing of the month will be on Aug. 6 to watch the Fisherman’s Picnic Parade. They are looking forward to seeing the parade, and maybe catching a piece of candy or two!
Other outings this month will be to the Senior Center on Aug. 24 for lunch and visiting with our friends, and we’re hoping for a nice day on Aug. 29 when the residents plan to spend some time by the big lake enjoying the boats, visitors, and ice cream treats.
The monthly birthday party will be held on Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. to celebrate those having a birthday in August. We will honor Diane Deschampe, Donna Anderson, and Ione Jones who will turn 100 this month. Eleanor Waha will provide the cake and ice cream, and Doug Sanders will play the piano for the party.
In honor of Ione Jones’ 100th birthday, Thrivent Financial has donated money to the Bethlehem Quilters for quilting supplies to make quilts for the residents of the Care Center. Please join Ione on Aug. 30 at 1:30 p.m. to help her celebrate her milestone birthday. Cake and ice cream will be served.
There will be a lot of fun to be had during “Gone Fishin” Week which will be held Aug. 19-26. The residents will be making some fishy crafts, baking some delicious worm dirt cake, and enjoying fishy games such as “Fish Scrabble” and “Go Fish” bingo. Hilja will host a “Somethin Fishy” Happy Hour on Aug. 21, and there will be lots of fishing stories all week long. If the fish are biting, we might even have a fish fry in our new kitchen.
Music this month includes a Gospel Singa long with Pastor Daren Blanck on Aug. 15, “Music with Amy & Friends” on Aug. 28, Myron Bursheim on Sunday afternoons, Al Fuller on Monday evenings, and Susan Scherer on Wednesday afternoons.
The residents wish all their family and friends safe travels during these busy summer months.
