August Activities at the Care Center

August will be a busy month for the seniors at the Care Center. We are enjoying plenty of time on our patios with the sunny weather that we’ve had, and we’re hoping the nice weather will continue. The month starts with Fisherman’s Picnic festivities, which always brings a lot of out-of-town family and friends visiting and reminiscing at the Care Center.

The residents enjoyed a tasty treat of fish burgers from the Lions Club fish burger stand on Thursday, Aug. 2. Many thanks to the Lions Club for so generously donating the fish burgers for the residents to enjoy!

The monthly birthday party will be held on Aug. 8 at 3 p.m. to celebrate those having a birthday in August. We will honor Diane Deschampe, Ed Olson, Donna Anderson, and Ione Jones. Eleanor Waha will once again make her delicious cake, and Doug Sanders will play all our favorite piano tunes for the event. Family and friends are welcome to join us.

Music events this month include folks songs with Marco Good on Aug. 7 at 2:30 p.m., a gospel sing-along with Pastor Darren Blanck and Joyce Krueger on Aug. 13 at 2 p.m., music with Amy and friends on Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m., and Portage Band will be back on Aug. 25 at 6:30 p.m. Joining us most Sunday afternoons in August at 2:30 p.m. will be Myron Bursheim. Susan Scherer will also be here on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. to share her piano music with the residents. Thanks to all our talented music volunteers who take time during these busy summer to bring the gift of music to our home.

There will be a lot of fun Hawaiian activities during our Hawaiian Fest, Aug. 20-24. We’ll start the festivities with Hilja’s Hawaiian Happy Hour on Aug. 20 at 2:30 p.m. serving Hawaiian drinks and snacks. On Tuesday, Aug. 21, we are looking forward to fun and laughs on the patio with minnow races.

On Thursday. Aug. 23, we will have a “Hawaiian Style Bingo.” There will be Hawaiian music, some lei crafting, island stories, kabob making, and maybe some Hawaiian cooking during the week too.

We are taking advantage of the nice summer weather to enjoy more outings in the community. This month we have three outings planned. Everyone loves a parade, and our first outing of the month will be on Aug. 5 to watch the Fisherman’s Picnic parade.

On Aug. 23, we will be going to the Senior Center for lunch, and to visit all our friends there. Another trip is planned for Aug. 27 to Harbor Park for the residents to spend some time by the Big Lake enjoying the boats, visitors, and some DQ treats. We’re hoping the sunshine and warm weather cooperate for all of our outings!

The residents wish all their family and friends safe travels during these busy summer months.
