Summer is here, and the residents of North Shore Living have been enjoying plenty of time on our beautiful patio taking in the fragrances and warm sunshine.
Our patio space continues to improve with the recent addition of the wheelchair-accessible glider swing. This swing enables those confined to a wheelchair to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of a soothing rocking motion. Other additions to our patio include access to our gazebo, and a shaded area. Many thanks to our hard-working maintenance department for all the hours they have dedicated to improving our outdoor space for all to enjoy.
August is a busy month starting with the Fisherman’s Picnic. We welcome all the family and friends who will be visiting the area over the Picnic. On Saturday, Aug. 3, we’ll have a fishing game and reminisce time on the patio along with some delicious fish snacks. The residents will enjoy an outing to watch the Fisherman’s Picnic parade on Aug. 4, so we’re hoping for lots of sunshine that day too.
Other outings this month include a trip on Aug. 22 to The Hub for lunch with our friends there, and an outing to Harbor Park and the Dairy Queen on Aug. 27.
The monthly birthday party will be held on Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. This month we will celebrate Diane Deschampe, Ed Olson, Donna Anderson, Bob Haring, and Ione Jones, who will turn 102 on Aug. 30! Doug Sanders will play our favorite piano tunes, and there will be plenty of cake and ice cream for everybody. Family and friends are welcome to join us.
A “Block Party” is scheduled for residents and their families on Thursday, Aug. 15 starting at 5 p.m. Residents and families will be able to enjoy dinner together at 5 p.m., followed by a gathering on the patio for root beer floats at 5:45 p.m. It gives residents and families of both households a chance to get to know each other better, and talk about life at North Shore Living.
There will be music on Sunday afternoons with Myron Bursheim, piano with Susan Scherer on Wednesday afternoons, and Portage Band will be at North Shore Living on Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. for a dance.
The 2nd annual minnow race will be held on Aug. 19 to kick off our Hawaii Fest celebration. The residents had so much fun at this activity last year that we had to bring it back again! Other fun activities that week will be Hawaiian Happy Hour with Hilja on Aug. 20, Hawaiian- style bingo on Aug. 22, making fruit kabobs on August 23, and wrapping up the week with the movie “Blue Hawaii” on August 24.
The residents wish all their family and friends safe travels during these busy summer months.
