Cook County Law Enforcement received a call at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11 reporting an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on fire at 80 Arrowhead Trail in Hovland.
Owner of the ATV, Gene Pearson of Hovland, said he was using the machine to grade his driveway with a grader attachment. Pearson told responders he believed he had put the Arctic Cat 300 under too much load and it overheated and caught on fire.
The Hovland and Colvill fire departments were paged. Hovland responders were on scene by 8:16 p.m. and let their mutual aid department know they could stand down. Hovland firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to any structures or the woods.
The ATV was a total loss.
