Banadad Trails

“Skiing is excellent” according to Boundary Country’s succinct Jan. 28 update. Snow depth in the woods is 14-15 inches. Fortyone kilometers of trails are tracked. For the latest conditions, see boundarycountry.com

Bearskin

Jan. 30 report: Trails on both sides of the system were groomed over the weekend. After about 2 inches of new snow, the groomers were out on the system all day again today. Skiers are seeing lots of animal activities right now. A moose trashed the trails on Bear Cub over the weekend, happily demolishing tracks so that the entire trail had to be regroomed. Three large pileated woodpeckers have been “posing” for pictures along the Beaver Dam Trail. Fox tracks are everywhere! See bearskintrailreports. wordpress.com/ for all the latest.

Golden Eagle

Jan. 31 report: We’ve had over 17 inches of snow this January and the trails are in excellent mid-winter condition. Average snow in the woods is 19 inches. For the latest conditions, call 1-800-346-2203 or 218-388- 2203.

Gunflint Pines

Shari Baker reports on Jan. 31 that all open trails with the exception of South Rim were groomed over the weekend and are in excellent condition. Amperage and Magnetic Rock trails remain closed. See gunflintpines.com for the latest news.

Lutsen Area

As of Jan. 26, the best conditions are on Deeryard. Pioneer/Ridge were also groomed but you will need to walk to actual Pioneer Loop to ski it. Ski only clockwise as there are exposed dirt spots. The packed base is 1-5 inches; total snowfall for the season is 17 inches. See www.norpinetrails.org for a complete report on ski conditions.

North Shore snowmobiling

Forrest at Hungry Jack Lodge says on Jan. 31, “Conditions are the best they have been all year. We received about 2 inches of new snow yesterday morning and another dusting this morning. The groomers have been out. The Gunflint, Expressway, Clearwater Spur, and Hungry Jack Spur have been groomed. Current snow levels are around 18 inchesplus in the mid Gunflint Trail area.” Check out suggested trailheads and routes at snowmobiletrails.com

Pincushion

Jan. 31 report: “Three inches of snow fell on Monday, grooming finished up in the early morning hours on Tuesday. All trails have been groomed for classic and skate skiing…It is going to be a great week!” Visit pincushiontrails.org/ trail-reports for the latest.

Sugarbush Trail Association

Jan. 31 update: All trails were rolled yesterday and allowed to set up overnight. The Onion River Road was regroomed this morning before temperatures rose above freezing. Grooming will continue tonight when the temps drop. See www.sugarbushtrail.org for the latest conditions.
