Grand Marais resident and full-time online student Ashley Green has won a $2,500 scholarship through the Dr Pepper Million Dollar Tuition Giveaway. The Dr Pepper program has awarded millions of dollars in tuition to students across the country. Whether a future doctor or lawyer, artist or musician, the Dr Pepper scholarship offers help with the rising costs of education.
“I saw the scholarship advertised on a can of Dr Pepper, and thought why not? I can do this!” Ashley said. She is currently enrolled in a pre-veterinary medicine course of study through Lake Superior College.
Ashley had to submit a 60-second video on her schooling and how it would help the community. In her video, Ashley talked about her work with the Grand Marais animal shelter and Arrowhead Animal Rescue. She included pictures of her dogs Molly and Kali and a 30-year-old Arabian horse named Araby.
Ashley has applied for many scholarships and was surprised and thankful to receive the $2,500 from Dr Pepper. She has been working with Cook County Higher Education on her schooling plans and intends to use the $2,500 toward school expenses for this fall semester.
Ashley is the daughter of Bev and Bruce Green of Grand Marais.
When asked if she had any advice for scholarship-seeking students, Ashley said, “If I can get a scholarship, then you can get a scholarship. Don’t be afraid to compete against the whole world; you might get one. You can do it!”
