Monday, June 28, ODDZ & ENDZ was a busy place. Some came to shop and buy, some to browse, but many more came to wish super-volunteer Arvis Thompson, who was working her last day at the store, well as she gets set to embark on a new adventure.
Arviz was one of the four founding members of ODDZ & ENDZ Resale.
Thompson saw a need for a place where residents could donate used household goods and furniture as well as someplace to purchase affordable household goods. She turned the dream into reality when she shared her ideas with friends Sandy Furlow, Sharon Bloomquist, and EvaLyn Carlson and ODDZ & ENDZ RESALE was born.
After five-plus years and many devoted hours to its success, Arvis has followed Sandy into retirement.
Throughout the years, the proceeds from ODDZ & ENDZ have benefited many nonprofit organizations. They include local churches, volunteer fire departments, county and historical groups, The Violence Prevention Center, Flute Reed Partnership, Care Partners, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Cook County Senior Center, Grand Portage Elderly Nutrition, Library Friends, the Grand Marais Playhouse and more.
After the fourth year of operation, donations, sales and payouts exceeded everyone’s expectations, and ODDZ & ENDZ was able to distribute $48,000, to help various nonprofits throughout the county.
Even though she will retire from the store, Thompson knows community support will keep the resale store functioning as usual. We wish Arvis well as she begins a new stage in her life.
