Are you someone who loves making things but feels guilty charging for what you’ve created? Have your friends said you should sell your fill-in-the-blank, but you don’t know how to get started?
Too often artists, of all stripes, seem to shy away from the business aspects of life and immerse themselves in what they love doing: making things. Paying attention to the business of selling what is made and taking time to explore the mysteries of success, marketing, cash-flow, and operations is a way of investing in ourselves and artwork.
The Grand Marais Art Colony is now offering classes to help artists succeed in their businesses. A Tool for Artists:
Creating a Business Plan
is one of these classes that juxtapose art and business. The class, taught by artist/business consultant Joyce Yamamoto, is a four-session, Wednesday evening class starting April 7 at 6 p.m.
Art Colony Director Amy Demmer said this is a very exciting opportunity. “Classes similar to this have been held in Duluth and beyond and people have traveled to attend. It is wonderful to have this class taking place in Grand Marais.”
