Troop leader Arvis Thompson bestowing lifetime membership in the Girl Scouts to CCHS senior Cynthia Burton. Cynthia thanked Arvis for her friendship over the years. She gave examples of how Arvis has helped her, such as by offering to take her driving during the two years it took her to get her driver’s license after completing driver’s ed. To express her appreciation, she gave Arvis a tree – “a forsythia from Cynthia” – since flowers were not enough, she said. Arvis, who has been a Girl Scout leader for 32 years, said through tears, “It just gets to be so hard to say goodbye.”
