The Cook County Historical Society hosted its famed Fishcake Dinner at St. John’s Catholic Church on Friday, June 12. Above Right: Wayne Anderson and Bob Pratt were on kitchen duty, serving up hearty servings of delicious fishcakes and fixings. Left: Little Maya McHugh drew names for prizes at the Fishcake dinner. Prizes given were free Historical Society memberships, historical books, fishcake batter, and fish dishes. One dubious prize was the honor of being cochair at next year’s Fishcake dinner. That prize was won by Jim Tidwell, who was quickly reassured that it was a joke. But not before his friend, Walt McCarthy, a Historical Society Museum volunteer, gave his suggestion to spice up next year’s dinner. McCarthy winked and said, “Dancing girls!” Above: Hal Greenwood was on clean-up crew. He said he was the “dumb waiter” as he cleared plates.
