The Grand Marais Art Colony will offer youth art classes this spring.
2-D to 3-D with David Hahn and John Franz will take place over four Mondays, April 13-May 4 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
The first two sessions, designed for students ages 10-14, will be used to provide an overview of drawing techniques including perspective, realism, and shading. Students will then work toward creating a 2-D design that will be translated into a 3-D piece using boneware clay.
Printing on Functional Fabric will conclude the offerings as Jill Levene will instruct on two Thursday evenings, April 30 and May 7.
Levene will demonstrate how art can be beautiful and functional; fabrics such as pillowcases and T-shirts are excellent examples. She will guide students ages 10-16 in an exploration of design choices in relation to fabric use. Students will then go on to create their own designs, carve them on linoleum blocks, and start printing.
