Art Colony hosts writing workshop for veterans

The Grand Marais Art Colony has partnered with the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs to provide a special workshop, “Write from the Heart,” for military veterans and their family members on Friday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants will explore their inner landscapes and experiment with what is fragmented, silenced, joyful. Using writing prompts, attendees will illuminate parts of their personal histories and begin to craft them into works of art. This workshop will focus on the writing process, not product, in a safe sharing environment. All levels welcome. No previous writing experience is necessary.

The facilitator will be Jeanette Marie Cox of Ely, who has provided writing and creativity workshops for 25 years. Her poetry chapbook, War and Peace, was adapted and featured in a Marjorie Goldman off-Broadway dance production. She studied and worked with Dr. Arun Gandhi on non-violence and social justice issues.
